  • If you are in an area with lots of babies being born, consider producing promotional leaflets tailored to expectant mums and new parents. Include a list of the things they will need, such as cotton wool, a thermometer, paracetamol suspension and so on
  • Are there mother and baby groups and antenatal classes nearby? Offer to run a session on childhood aliments €“ perhaps combined with an offer of a 10 per cent off voucher on purchases of baby products over the value of £15
  • Staff training is extremely important €“ are all your staff trained to deal with childhood ailments effectively?
  • How child-friendly is your pharmacy? Can mothers with buggies easily manoeuvre through the shop? Should you make some small changes to improve customer flow to make it more likely that parents with buggies (or people in wheelchairs) will visit? Some pharmacies have invested in child play tables in the prescription waiting area to occupy children while waiting for prescriptions to be dispensed.
