CHECK FOR DRUG INTERACTIONS9

It's important to check that the customer is not taking any other product containing ipratropium bromide, or any other anticholinergic drugs, including the antihistamines chlorphenamine and diphenhydramine.

Check customers are not taking:

  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) e.g. phenelzine, selegiline,
  • Tri- or tetra-cyclic antidepressants e.g amitriptyline.

Concomitant use or use within the last 2 weeks of tri-cyclic antidepressants and sympathomimetic preparations may result in an increased sympathomimetic effect of xylometazoline (resulting in raised blood pressure and inducing vasoconstriction) and is therefore not recommended.

Concomitant use or use within the last 2 weeks of sympathomimetic preparations (preparations which act as agonists of the sympathetic nervous system; effects include stimulating the heart and inducing vasoconstriction, e.g phenylephrine) may induce severely elevated blood pressure and is therefore not recommended. In critical cases of elevated blood pressure, treatment with Otrivine Extra Dual Relief should be discontinued and the elevated blood pressure treated.
