The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued the eighth serious shortage protocol (SSP) for Creon 10000 gastro-resistant capsules in the last 21 months.
The latest update, issued yesterday, extends the SSP, which was due to expire today, until Friday October 2, 2026.
Last month, the SSP was extended from July 10 to August 7 and from April 17 to July 10 before that. Two extensions were announced in January this year (January 16 to January 30 and January 30 to April 17).
Other extensions include November 21, 2025, to January 16, 2026, May 23, 2025, to November 21, 2025, and November 22, 2024, to Friday May 23, 2025.
Under the SSP, a reduced quantity of Creon 10000 gastro-resistant capsules is supplied for less than the number of days prescribed on the original prescription. And no prescription charges will apply.
