Lincolnshire Co-op has said six members of staff in its pharmacy warehouse in Lincoln have been made redundant and 11 “will be moving on to new opportunities” following a consultation as “part of a wider change programme” at the company.

The warehouse, which supplies prescription medicines to Lincolnshire Co-op’s pharmacy branches, employs 80 people and the company said “of 42 colleagues impacted, 25 will continue their careers” in the warehouse.

Lincolnshire Co-op, who said it worked with the union Usdaw and warehouse colleagues to minimise compulsory redundancies, insisted it supported those who were made redundant “through one-to-ones, sessions with the Department of Work and Pensions and skills workshops in areas including CV writing and interview skills.”

It added: “Lincolnshire Co-op’s pharmacies will receive supply of prescription medication directly from existing third-party suppliers, after the completion of a collective consultation with colleagues at its pharmacy warehouse.

“This is part of a wider change programme across the Society, which will see patients benefit from additional health services and further investment into pharmacies. The Society is also planning to develop new business streams in healthcare and housing.”

Lincolnshire Co-op said it “plans to introduce more health services for patients” and invest in its branches, including introducing “new technology and improved IT systems” across its business.

Lincolnshire Co-op CEO Alison Hands said: “We also need to manage our costs, work in the most efficient way and ensure all our business activities balance our long-term growth and our community purpose.”
