Eli Lilly has announced the UK launch of a home delivery scheme for its medicines, with Pharmacy2U and Blueco Healthcare named as its ‘dispensing partners’.
The Lillydirect scheme will see the manufacturer’s medicines shipped directly to patients after a private electronic prescription is issued by an eligible regulated third party provider who is signed up to the service. Lilly said it will have no involvement in any clinical decisions that are made.
Prescriptions will then be sent to the scheme’s dispensing partners and the medicine despatched to patients “in discreet packaging,” said Lilly.
The scheme is currently available for private prescriptions of Mounjaro, with the manufacturer saying it “will continue to evaluate which medicines are offered”.
The company said the new initiative will help guard against counterfeit product entering the supply chain, and will adhere to all relevant handling and storage regulations.
Khalil Asmar, vice president of cardiometabolic health at Lilly UK & Northern Europe, said: “This year marks 150 years since the founding of Eli Lilly and Company. For a century and a half, our founding purpose – to make life better for patients – has driven every innovation we have pursued.
“The launch of LillyDirect in the UK is a continuation of that legacy: using the tools and technologies available today to better serve patients tomorrow.
“We are committed to ensuring that once a patient has been prescribed a Lilly medicine, receiving it is as simple, secure and straightforward as possible.”
