Fees paid by the public for carrier bags have raised over £45,000 for charity in-store says LloydsPharmacy. Funds from bag sales have been donated to Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland since the government introduced the single-use carrier bag levy last October, as part of the company’s fundraising activities.
“We’re delighted that we can put the carrier bag charge toward such a great cause. Our colleagues are really behind the charity partnership and get involved in loads of fundraisers,†said Leisa O’Brien, health safety and environmental co-ordinator at Celesio UK. LloydsPharmacy plastic bags are 100 per cent recyclable, she added.
Celesio UK also has over 4,200 employees signed up as Dementia Friends.
£1,090 would help maintain a dementia support service for an entire year for one person with dementia and £40 would pay for a person living with dementia to attend a Dementia Café for two months, where they can get advice and share their experiences with others.
