With Parliament in recess and a new pharmacy minister, David Mowatt MP, freshly appointed, pharmacists should make contact with their local MPs in the next few weeks to tell them about the value of community pharmacy and the Support Your Local Pharmacy campaign, the National Pharmacy Association has recommended.
The NPA has produced an online tool to help pharmacists with their lobbying.
“The Email Your MP tool makes it very easy to get in touch with your MP by email and social media.
We have populated it with a template email for you to use, you can simply add your name top and bottom, or (preferably) edit to include your own thoughts,†said NPA chair Ian Strachan.
Find the email template at http://lobby.supportyourlocalpharmacy.com/
Pharmacists need to make sure that MPs, other stakeholders and the public are aware of the Support Your Local Pharmacy campaign. “The current direction of policy, if not challenged, could lead to a serious fracturing of the pharmacy network in England, leaving many patients with reduced access to face to face advice and treatment and putting extra pressure on GPs and hospitals,†said the NPA.
