Winter Health: Coughs
An acute cough is most commonly caused by an infection of the upper respiratory tract.1 Adults can be affected with 2-5 episodes of upper respiratory tract infections per year and school children can have as many as 7-10 episodes per year.2 Customers may describe their cough in a variety of ways, and you can help them to find the right product to meet their needs.
Objectives
- Know how customers may describe their cough
- Understand how different ingredients in cough products work (such as guaifenesin or dextromethorphan)
- Be able to make effective product recommendations
- Know when to refer to other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
