Day Lewis achieves growth in challenging year

Day Lewis has grown to 315 pharmacies, having added 34 stores to the company in the past year, and continues to be on track to owning 400 pharmacies by 2020, said executive director Sam Patel, speaking at the company's annual conference. The portfolio includes 18 health centre pharmacies, putting working closely with general practice at the top of the agenda, he said.

Despite funding cuts in England, the company has seen continued growth in prescription items and sales in 2017, and had expanded capacity by building its fifth warehouse. The company again featured in the Sunday Times Top Track 250 list this year, rising to 49th place, and was also reaccredited as 'gold' by Investors in People, which is only achieved by three per cent of UK businesses.

Executive director Jay Patel said that the company was looking to increase the number of services that it offers. "We have 2.5 per cent of pharmacies in the UK, but are aspiring to five per cent of services," he said. The company is looking to achieve 100 per cent of quality payments, and be putting a plan in place to encourage Day Lewis pharmacists to work "in collaboration with general practice".

The year had been a challenging one, he said, "but we are moving in the right direction".

The company will continue to have a strong focus on training, he said, to prepare for future demands. "We want our health care professionals to be revalidation ready," he said.

Executive director, Rupa Patel, addressed over 1,200 guests – the majority Day Lewis employees – at the company's 22nd gala dinner in November.
