Knowing all the areas where you can improve your pharmacy might prove overwhelming. There are always many ways to evolve positively and make things better. The first step is to convert the notes you have made in a manageable list of actions.

A simple model of prioritisation would be to identify quick wins; what can be done quickly and possibly at no or little cost, that will make a noticeable difference. You might also identify those actions that take more work and resource but will make a step change that you can work towards.

Create an action plan to make a difference. Remember to include:

What you want to achieve

The standards you expect

Who will be responsible for doing it

The deadline when it should be completed.

This article discusses the role of an area manager in terms of standards of presentation of your pharmacy. Future articles will focus on how taking this role might help you think about standards in the dispensary and in operational plans.

Activity

Write an action plan for implementing any changes you identified from your observations in the previous task.

Ensure that you identify the standards you expect, who will be responsible for doing it, and by when it must be completed.
