Community pharmacy contractors can begin providing flu vaccinations to social care workers following the publication of an amended service specification and Patient Group Direction (PGD) for the Community Pharmacy Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Advanced Service.

The new cohort includes care home workers aged 18 and over who are employed by a registered residential care/nursing home or registered domiciliary care provider and are involved in caring for individuals at increased risk from exposure to influenza.

All contractors who will be vaccinating care home and domiciliary care workers must read and sign the new PGD, which also requires a signature from an authorising manager, says the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee.
