Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

It is time to Turn it Purple to raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month – the annual campaign that shines a spotlight on the UK’s fifth biggest cancer killer

Run by Pancreatic Cancer Action (PCA) every November, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms and the importance of early diagnosis. This year, PCA is determined to reach more people than ever before to save more lives and make the 2020s the decade of change for pancreatic cancer.
Timing matters

The survival rate of pancreatic cancer is under eight per cent and has barely changed in the last 50 years. PCA is dedicated to improving survival rates through early diagnosis of the disease by raising awareness of the symptoms, for the simple reason that the  five-year  survival  increases to around 30 per cent with an early diagnosis.

To help, PCA is committed to funding research into early diagnosis, offering free patient information and providing free resources for healthcare professionals, which is where pharmacy teams come in.

Turn your pharmacy purple

Community pharmacy teams are well placed to identify key signs of pancreatic cancer and provide more opportunity for intervention within communities, leading to more people being diagnosed earlier and potentially living longer and with a better quality of life.

Therefore, PCA is encouraging pharmacies to speak to their communities about pancreatic cancer and order their free Turn It Purple pack of resources, including the new #PurpleHeart poster, to boost education and help raise awareness during November.

The charity is also encouraging pharmacy teams to take its free National Pharmacy Association-accredited e-learning module on pancreatic cancer.
