What’s on offer at the 2018 Pharmacy Show?

This year’s Pharmacy Show at NEC Birmingham on October 7-8 brings together over 200 expert speakers and more than 400 UK and international exhibitors

The Pharmacy Show 2018 promises to help pharmacists through the current challenges facing the sector. Funding cuts and mounting regulatory and administrative burdens, such as GDPR and revalidation, make it vital that pharmacists understand these key issues and how they are affected.

This year’s Pharmacy Show assembles a wealth of knowledge under one roof, helping delegates stay ahead of the game with incisive talks and more than 120 hours of free CPD education – so join pharmacy experts and key opinion leaders, new and existing suppliers and policy-makers to ensure you keep up with all the latest developments and can drive your business forward and improve patient outcomes.

Conference overview

The Pharmacy Show is by far the largest pharmacy training event in the UK and plays a vital role in supporting community, primary and secondary care pharmacy professionals with free continuing professional development (CPD) content covering services, strategy, tactics, clinical, business, public health, digital health, leadership and GP practice pharmacy training and education that is vital for the future of the profession. Below is a brief look at the planned events for each theatre:

Keynote theatre
This theatre will host talks that shine a light on the big issues affecting pharmacy, with speakers including government officials and leadership body representatives, as well as entrepreneurs and grass roots pharmacists.

Highlights include a talk from Pharmacy Magazine editor Richard Thomas on how a strong pharmacy media champions and supports community pharmacy.

Business theatre
This theatre will deliver 30-minute ‘how to’ sessions with simple top tips and practical advice that can be put into practice the next day. Marketing, making efficiencies, motivating staff, time management, finance planning, making more sales, implementing a service and making it profitable will all be high on the agenda.

Pharmacy technology theatre
What technological advances are available and how can they improve outputs within your pharmacy? Find out this and more in this show-floor dedicated theatre.

GP pharmacy theatre
This theatre will support pharmacists in this new practice-based role, and offer advice to those keen to integrate community pharmacy with general practice.

Pharmacy services innovation theatre
Here you will learn new ideas around commissioned services, additional income streams, and ways to connect with CCGs, LAs and local charities.

Importantly, this theatre will showcase what community pharmacy is capable of across the country and help you understand what you can do to make a difference within the communities you serve.

Clinical theatre
Events here will cover key therapy areas. The advanced clinical content will include the consultation and soft skills needed when managing patients with long-term conditions.

Revalidation
With the October 31 deadline for revalidation fast approaching, the Pharmacy Show will provide plenty of planned and unplanned learning activities, as well as networking opportunities for peer-to-peer discussions.

GPhC chief executive Duncan Rudkin will give a talk in the Keynote Theatre detailing everything pharmacists need to know about revalidation including what to do and when, how to write a good reflective summary in your CPD, as well as peer discussion and reflective account records.

Business ideas
More than 400 UK and international exhibitors will be showcasing new medicines, products and profitable new retailing ideas. There will also be plenty of educational opportunities on stands throughout the venue.

Live flu training
RX Advisor and ECG Ltd will once again run live flu and CPR training sessions at a discounted rate. ECG, which trained 12,500 pharmacists in vaccination skills in 2017, is offering “an up-to-date, fun and interactive training session”, while RX Advisor has designed a user-friendly course including a workshop and online resources.
