Pharmacy Show unveils business agenda

Pharmacy Show’s marketing manager, Mihir Patel, previews what’s on offer at the event

With access to the summary care record now becoming a reality, the pledge to see a paperless NHS by 2020 and additional point-ofdispensing checks in pharmacies, it is clear that pharmacy technology is set to become the issue of the day.

This year’s Pharmacy Show places a special emphasis on the role of technology in delivering community pharmacy services. Visitors should not miss the specially convened practical workshops around SCR. Located in Piazza Suite 5 of the NEC Birmingham on the Sunday, and Piazza Suite 1 on the Monday, these sessions are your chance to speak to the experts, ahead of the national roll-out later this year, to find out what the development means for you, your staff and patients.

Business programme

P3 magazine is the editorial partner of the show’s Business Theatre, a signature element of the Pharmacy Show since its inception. This year’s programme has been redesigned to give today’s pharmacy managers and owners all the information, advice and guidance they need to run a financially successful business. At this year’s show, leading lights from the world of pharmacy business will be on hand during both days to tackle complex issues such as maximising prescription business, releasing dispensary capacity, care home business, pharmacy finance, wholesaling, marketing, and sales and acquisitions.

If you have a question related to maximising the financial performance of your business, the Business Theatre, sponsored this year by Numark, is the place to be. Throughout the Pharmacy Show conference and exhibition, visitors to the new Technology Hub can hear experts from leading organisations such as NHS England, the Health and Social Care Information Centre and the National Pharmacy Association deliver presentations on subjects such as cost-effective drug procurement and reimbursement, hub and spoke dispensing models, apps to support your patient service and medicines management, and the electronic prescription service.

Practising pharmacists will also be on hand to discuss and share their own experiences of using technology. The Pharmacy Show offers the whole pharmacy team a wide programme of education and networking opportunities and exhibition floor space – all under one roof. In total, there are eight conference programmes scheduled for this year and there is an impressive line-up of speakers.

Keynote speakers

In the Keynote Theatre on Monday 19 October, at 10am, delegates will hear from the new pharmacy minister Alistair Burt. Look out, too, for the full programme of education scheduled to take place in the new RBforHealth self-care Forum, the new Pharmaceutical Care Skills Workshop area, the expanded Public Health and Wellbeing Forum and Local Pharmacy Innovation Theatres, and in the Clinical Theatre. On the exhibition floor, more than 400 exhibitors will be on hand to demonstrate their very latest in product innovations and offer business support. ô€€€
