Boots UK launches online ED clinic

Boots UK has announced it is to launch an online erectile dysfunction service, which the retailer says will be its biggest online pharmacy service to date.

The announcement comes as the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency analyses public input to a consultation on whether to make sildenafil tablets available over the counter.

The online service will cover various aspects of men’s sexual health and wellness, Boots UK says, and will allow men to order ED medications online. It will be available to men from 18 years with no upper age limit.

Men will complete an online consultation on the Boots.com website before buying medication. A clinician will review the suitability of the medicine based on this consultation and prescribe the medicine when it is appropriate. As part of the order, customers will be asked to confirm that their blood pressure has been tested in the past two years, Boots UK says.

Director of pharmacy services and operations at Boots UK, Asif Aziz, said: “Our customers tell us the biggest benefit of buying online is the convenience and discretion, particularly for more personal and sensitive health conditions, and we know that more of our customers are switching to online for their medication, particularly in men’s categories, with erectile dysfunction related words being one of the two most popular search terms on Boots.com.

“The launch of our online ED service not only marks the start of our strategic ambition to create a leading Omni channel pharmacy business but also supports the NHS self care agenda and gives our customers more empowerment to access the professional health and advice they need in the most convenient way to them.”
