Boots UK introduces new role of Pharmacy Advisor to aid pharmacists

Boots UK is set to roll out a new Pharmacy Advisor role across its stores over the next few months.

The new role will enable dispensing and healthcare teams to work “more closely and flexibly,” allowing the pharmacist to spend more time with patients and customers.

All existing Dispensing Assistant will transform to this role over time, says the company. Additional training will be offered to healthcare advisors who would like to move into the role.

“Supporting more of our pharmacy colleagues to deliver face to face patient and customer care is vital to achieving our ambition for pharmacy to play a greater role in offering services that make a real difference to our patients’ health and wellbeing,” said Marc Donovan, chief pharmacist at Boots UK.

“The NHS is at a time of great change, and we know that pharmacy can do more. We are investing in our people, and ensuring that more of our pharmacy teams have the skills they need to support pharmacists in delivering higher levels of care for our patient.”

To become a Pharmacy Advisor, staff members will have to be qualified in NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services Skills or an equivalent, as well as having Medicines Counter Assistant qualification.

The company will offer trainee Pharmacy Advisor roles, to enable staff to work towards the required qualifications.
