New mandatory internet pharmacy logo

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has announced that online pharmacies must register with the MHRA and display a new European common logo on each web page.

From 1 July, anyone who sells medicine in the UK online to the general public will have to register with the MHRA and display the logo, which will contain a hyperlink to the seller’s entry on the MHRA list of registered sellers. The penalty for not registering or displaying the logo is up to two years in prison or a fine, or both.

Lynda Scammell, senior policy advisor at the MHRA, said: ‘This should reassure people that they are buying from a legitimate site.’
