The number of young adults who report they do not drink alcohol at all increased by 40 per cent between 2005 and 2013, according to the Office of National Statistics. Recent advice has warned women trying to conceive or who are pregnant to avoid alcohol to protect their baby.

The Dementia Friends initiative has reached the target set of one million Dementia Friends, but want even more to take part. A new target of four million Friends has been set for 2020, to encourage more communities and businesses to become dementia-friendly.

The NHS could have to deal with one million more seriously ill people aged over 50 in 10 years’ time, claims a report. Published by the International Longevity Centre UK, researchers estimate that those with serious illness is set to rise to between 3.4 million and 4 million by 2025, from 3.1 million today.

Funding under the Essential Small Pharmacy scheme ends on 31 March. Affected community pharmacies will need to ‘pro-actively engage with NHS England locally’ says the National Pharmacy Association, to help raise awareness of the benefits of local pharmacy with stakeholders.
