‘Pharmacists are your medicines experts' is to be the theme for this year's World Pharmacists Day, The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) has announced.

The global awareness-raising event falls on 25 September. It started in 2009 to encourage activities that promote and advocate for pharmacists’ role in improving health internationally.

The theme was chosen to highlight pharmacists’ expertise in the area of patient health, said FIP president Dr Carmen Peña: “This expertise is applied through science and research, through educating the next generation, and through transforming patient needs into services.”

“As one of the most accessible healthcare professionals globally, we use our learning to protect health and prevent illness,” said Dr Peña.

The theme also provides an opportunity to showcase how pharmacy works with other parts of the other healthcare system, Dr Peña added: “For every patient who walks into a pharmacy, pharmacists ensure that the right medicine is provided at the right dose and in the most suitable formulation. We work with other healthcare professionals to ensure that every individual receives optimal treatment.”
